Curious about wheel throwing? Start here.

This short, hands-on series is a chance to try pottery on the wheel without committing to a full course. This three-session series is a chance to get your hands on clay, learn the basics and see what the wheel is all about.

Over three 3-hour sessions, you’ll learn to centre, open and pull clay and create simple forms such as cups and bowls. You’ll have plenty of individual guidance in our small studio, and your finished pieces will be glazed and fired for you.

This is a good choice if:

  • you’ve never used a pottery wheel before
  • you want to see if wheel throwing is for you
  • you’d like a creative experience without a 10-week commitment
  • you’re happy to explore the basics rather than jump into developing a higher level of skill

Come ready to get messy, have some fun, and make some pots.

Maximum 6 students · No experience necessary

3-Hours x 10-Weeks | Thursdays 6-9 pm| October 1 to December 3

$575 + HST

Ready to really learn the wheel?

This 10-week series gives you the time and repetition needed to develop your wheel-throwing skills. Rather than simply introducing you to the process, we’ll build your skills progressively—from centering and basic cylinders through shaping, trimming and making more complex forms.

With a small group and ongoing individual instruction, you’ll have time to practice, make mistakes, try again and see your skills improve from week to week. We’ll explore a range of functional forms such as mugs, bowls, cups and vessels, as well as techniques for refining and finishing your work.

You’ll also learn about the stages of ceramic production—from wet clay through drying, trimming, bisque firing, glazing and final firing.

This is a good choice if:

  • you want to learn wheel throwing rather than simply try it
  • you’re interested in developing a regular pottery practice
  • you enjoy learning through repetition and experimentation
  • you want more time to develop your own throwing style and forms
  • you’re ready to make a larger body of work

Come ready to get messy, have some fun, and make some pots.

Maximum 6 students · No experience necessary

Note:

We know plans can change. If you need to cancel, please notify us by email at least 7 calendar days before the start of the course, and we’ll refund 75% of the cost of the course.

Registration fees are non-refundable after this deadline. We’re unable to offer a place in a future class, a gift certificate, or other compensation in lieu of a refund.

Registration is for weekly classes on a set day and time. In the case of the 10-week series, the first three weeks are particularly important for getting comfortable with the basics, so we encourage you to make every effort to attend — and please let us know if you’re going to miss a class.

We’ll do our best to find an opportunity for you to make up a missed session during the course, depending on availability in another class. Make-up sessions are not guaranteed.

We’re not able to offer refunds or gift certificates for missed classes.
